About Us/Me

Thank you so much for taking the time to look at our profile.  We are Joss and Alice.  Joss is from France, Alice from the USA.  We have a fairy tale love story of meeting on an airplane and falling in love right then and there.  Our relationship was challenging in the beginning, as it was long distance (Joss in France and Alice in California) – but we are both the types of people that will do anything for the people we love, so we made it work!  We got married in August of 2013 & have been together ever since.   We would say we live our lives passionately with fun, adventure and curiosity.

We have family all over the world, from Joss’s family in France, to my family in Virginia and other relatives spread out all over the USA in Washington DC, Chicago & Florida.  We travel quite a bit and frequently have visitors here in California.  We thrive in a life that is in motion but are looking forward to the organized chaos that parenthood brings.  Our children will be raised in a bilingual household, and we will encourage them to learn a third language as well.

As of now, we have only been blessed with fur babies – and we have poured so much love into these two.. you can probably see by our photos, we could be referred to as the crazy dog parents in our neighborhood and we are fine with that title.

Joss is very creative; he’s a videographer & photographer and Alice works in sales for a public speaker who gives motivational talks.  We both travel a little bit for work but have incredibly flexible jobs and are at home a lot.  We are extremely excited about having children in our home.  We have a strong community surrounding us and our neighborhood is overflowing with children.  We live across the street from a popular kid friendly park where we hang out with our neighbors and the kids enjoy throwing the ball or frisbee for our dogs.  With the amazing weather here in California we have lots of opportunity to get outside and enjoy nature.  Some of our best friends (and parents of Alice’s 18-month-old Goddaughter) live less than a mile away.  We live near an aquatic center that has a great kids park & lap pool, a wonderful bike path, hiking trails, beaches, etc.  We are just really missing children of our own to enjoy this with.

Even though we are very active and happy people, it has been a little stressful these past few years going through the roller coaster of attempting to have children.  To alleviate stress, Joss plays ice hockey in a couple local leagues and Alice taught herself to crochet, which has become both a fun stress reliever and a side business.  She can’t wait to teach our little ones how to make things out of yarn & Joss can’t wait to teach them to skate and speak French.

As a couple we support all human beings’ right to love, marriage, equal wage, and safety in the home and workplace.  We are not people that stand by if we can help make a difference.  You can find us volunteering for political campaigns, marching for justice, donating to relief efforts, buying lunch for firefighters and taking a stand for what we believe in.  Our beliefs do not define us, nor do they divide us – we have friends and family with perspectives that differ from our own and we both love a respectful discussion around the dinner table.  Diversity is the spice of life, and we greatly value different perspectives, however we tend to align ourselves the most deeply with people that share our view of humanity.

We are incredibly grateful to you for taking the time to read this!

About You

To the woman who we have not met, but we already deeply love, admire and respect… we cannot imagine what you’re thinking right now, but what we do know is that there are no accidents.  You will always have two people who are *definitely not* perfect but have open hearts and are committed to figuring life out, one step at a time.  An open adoption is important to us for all parties involved, with you at the center.  You are doing an incredibly selfless thing - it makes me tear up just even thinking about how huge your heart must be.  We will work with you to navigate emotions that arise and of course will love this child so fiercely.  We are committed to doing our very best as parents. We will make mistakes, but we do a good job at owning up to them and learning from them.  This process can be strange and scary and what we want is to be a safe space for you and our collective child.

There is a short story in the book "a 3rd serving of Chicken Soup for the Soul" that touched our hearts recently: Teacher Debbie Moon's first-graders were discussing a picture of a family.  One little boy in the picture had different color skin than the other family members.  One child suggested that he was adopted, and a little girl named Jocelynn Jay said, "I know all about adoptions because I'm adopted." "What does it mean to be adopted?" asked another child. "It means," said Jocelynn, "that you grew in your mother's heart instead of her tummy."

We feel that we have been brought all together for a reason, and look forward to meeting you!

Sending love and endless gratitude to you!
