About Us/Me

Hi!  We’re Mike and Neil, and we’re so grateful that you’re considering us as part of this incredibly important decision.  We’ve included a little about ourselves below, and we’re looking forward to getting to know you, too.

We met on a snowy January night in 2006 and have been best friends since.  In 2016, after marriage equality was legalized, we got married in front of our closest family and friends in a big, fun party on the shores of Lake Erie.  We now live in a 100-year old home in Cleveland Heights, a leafy, diverse, and historic neighborhood outside Cleveland with Ellie, our sweet 3-year-old Labrador Retriever, and Dizmo, our mischievous but adorable cat.

Mike attended Case Western Reserve University for his undergraduate, masters, and law degrees, and is a partner at a national law firm.  Neil went to New York University and then the University of Pennsylvania for law school, and is a healthcare consultant working to make hospitals safer and more efficient.  We’re both from the Cleveland area, and when it came time to decide where to put down roots, there was no real question – we wanted to be close to our family in the area.  Neil’s mom and Mike’s parents live nearby, and Neil’s brother and sister-in-law, and their three kids, live only 5 minutes away.  They’re very excited about their new cousin.

On the weekends, you’ll usually find us out hiking around nearby lakes with Ellie, finding new spicy dishes to cook for family and friends, or exploring parts of the Metroparks, a collection of parks in and around Cleveland.  We also love nothing more than to sit and read on our porch and chat with our neighbors as they walk past.  You may also find us playing softball (Neil’s been on the same team with a group of friends for the past 12 years, though they’re not that good), trying to get the weeds out of our lawn, or hosting game nights with friends (Celebrity and Heads Up are our favorites).

One of our biggest passions is to travel and learn about other cultures, and over the past few years we’ve been fortunate to travel across Europe, Southeast Asia, Australia, and South America.  We’re really looking forward to traveling with our child and exposing them to new foods, languages, and cultures from around the world.

Thank you for taking the time to read our profile.  If there’s one thing you take away from this, we hope it’s that family is the core of who we are, and that we are so excited about becoming parents.  We want to raise a child in a loving house full of laughter, books, and music, and instill in them the values that our parents instilled in us.  We hope we get a chance to meet you soon!

About You

We cannot begin to understand the complex emotions you must be going through, but we are so very grateful that you would consider us to love and raise your child.  When we started on this journey, we knew we wanted to pursue an open adoption, because it's important to us that our child knows and has a relationship with his or her mother.  We're committed to figuring out exactly what that looks like in a thoughtful and collaborative way.

We hope you know that your child will be surrounded by a community of family and close friends who will always be sources of support.  Just today, our 6-year old nephew went through his toy chest and pulled out a toy car and said “this is for the baby – I made sure it’s not a scary car.”  Your child will have cousins and aunts and uncles and grandparents less than ten minutes away, who will help raise him or her with sound values and a true sense of respect for others.

It’s important for us to raise a child who will experience periods of great happiness through his or her individual accomplishments, but more importantly, deep joy in the happiness and service they provide to others.  More than anything, we want to raise the type of child who protects others, is a strong and independent person, and is a source of good and love in this world.

Thank you so much for considering us, and we hope we get a chance to meet you soon.  You would change our lives in the most wonderful, extraordinary manner possible.
